USBI and Lone Star College Partner to Offer the First Accredited U.S. Degree in Indonesia

The U.S.-Indonesia Joint Council on Higher Education Partnership congratulates Universitas Siswa Bangsa Internasional (USBI) and Lone Star College (LSC) on their progress towards establishing the first accredited U.S. Associate Degree program offered in Indonesia. USBI expects to offer a two-year U.S. Associate’s degree program at its campus in Pancoran, South Jakarta in the fall of 2013. USBI, which is being developed and supported by the Putera Sampoerna Foundation, is in the process of receiving formal university designation.  The Sampoera Foundation is building the university and the Associate Degree program on the foundation of its two existing colleges – the Sampoerna School of Business and the Sampoerna School of Education.

Through a partnership with the Lone Star College of Houston, Texas, students will earn a degree they can transfer to the many universities in the United States recognizing the Lone Star College System credit. As part of the agreement between USBI and LSC students transferring from USBI to certain universities and programs in Texas will have access to attractive tuition rates.  Participating students will have the option of returning to Indonesia to participate in a USBI Capstone Project and receive a USBI Bachelor’s Degree. This project, called Return Pathway, includes internships and employment opportunities with USBI’s industry partners upon graduation.

Putera Sampoerna, a key partner of the Joint Council, is committed to advancing the cause of education in Indonesia. The Joint Council applauds this partnership and these new initiatives, which will help increase the number of Indonesians who study in the U.S. and strengthen higher educational ties between both countries.
