A Message from the Executive Director

A Message from the Executive Director

In September 2011, I joined the U.S.-Indonesia Joint Council after President Obama and President Yudhoyono encouraged the Joint Council to “harness the energies of the non-governmental, public, and private sectors in both countries in support of expanding bilateral programs in higher education, including to help build Indonesia’s capacity to provide world class university education.”  After five successful years of helping to strengthen American and Indonesian higher educational ties, I have decided to step down as the executive director beginning in January 2017.

Over these past five years, through collaboration with the U.S. and Indonesian governments, universities in both countries, higher education associations, and the private sector, the Joint Council has helped over 1,000 Indonesian and American students study abroad in each other’s countries.  Additionally the Joint Council has helped establish ten new university partnerships between the U.S. and Indonesia that will continue to strengthen American and Indonesian higher educational ties and provide pipelines for future student mobility.

This success would not have been possible without the dedicated efforts of professors, students, university administrators, government officials, and private sector funders who have worked with the Joint Council to increase student and faculty exchanges, collaborative research, and institutional partnerships.  I would like to thank everyone who has been involved in this important initiative to strengthen American and Indonesian higher educational ties.

While I will be leaving to pursue other opportunities, the U.S.-Indonesia Society (www.usindo.org) will continue to work hard to keep Americans and Indonesians engaged with one another through educational programming.
